I won state, national and world titles…

20 years ago (when I was 17) my mum gave me a copy of the Sportsmind Training Manual, signed from you. I followed the program and won the U18 Beach flags championship in Surf Life Saving and went on to compete in the Kellogg’s Nutri Grain series and for Australia. I won state, national and world titles. Thanks so much for the work you do.

The Sportsmind Challenge: 42 Days to Mental Toughness

An untrained mind cannot accomplish anything of significant worth – and this is especially true in sport.

‘Trained’ in this Sportsmind sense has nothing to do with your level of education, or how ‘intelligent’ you are :   rather, it’s all about your ability to know what to focus on and pay attention to at any point in time, and the ability to maintain that concentration in the face of external pressures.

What we call mental toughness.

Sportspeople who don’t develop this essential mental toughness underachieve.   So, in order to unlock your full physical potential, you will want to learn and master the seven skills of the sports mind.

The purpose of this 42-day Sportsmind mental training is to inspire you with the belief that you can significantly improve your sports performances, and give you the necessary mental and emotional skills to succeed.
Now that you’ve started visualisation practice, I challenge you to step up to the next level in your sport and complete this six-week Sportsmind training, which will combine your visualisation work with the six other Sportsmind skills as part of a comprehensive mental skills regimen.
Work through the 42 daily lessons and exercises by yourself with the Sportsmind Training Manual for $27.

Mental Toughness Can Be Learned

For many years it was considered that mental toughness was inherent, and unteachable – and some still consider this to be so. You’ve either ‘got it’ or you don’t. However, the advent of the science of Neuro-Linguistic Programming has clearly identified that all behaviours – including mental toughness – are a result of cognitive processes; thinking strategies that can be taught and learned.
This training program is unique in its practical ability to help you develop the mental toughness of a champion. Since its original publication in 1993, literally thousands of sportspeople have benefited from the training. This new edition is revised and improved with extra information and exercises to make it even more effective.

What’s in the Program?

The daily exercises and techniques provided in the training are designed to allow you to practice and implement the ideas and principles I’ve explained in the Sportsmind book. Unless you take this opportunity to complete the work program, the skills of the sports mind will remain just ideas in a book… to turn those ideas into improved performances in your sport, you will want to implement and practice them daily until they become a natural and automatic part of your approach to training and competition.

I’ve designed the training program to be an experiential learning – so while there will be specific techniques and tools which you can take and use in your specific sports contexts, the whole objective of my approach is that you will become a better athlete just by working through this six week course.

This is very important, because often when I’ve spoken to people who’ve read Sportsmind, and asked them if they completed the six week mental training program, many tell me that they didn’t!

Don’t be like them; you’re better than that. You wouldn’t have started visualisation work unless you’re committed to your sport, so I challenge you to demonstrate that commitment by going further and taking up the Sportsmind six-week mental training challenge!

The exercises are very simple, don’t require a great deal of time, and can be undertaken anywhere. The training period is six weeks, with a set of mental and emotional skills exercises each day, and a logical progression built into the program.

Realise that what you’re doing through this program of exercises is to train your mind to think along lines which will develop the seven Sportsmind skills:

  • Positive Self Motivation
  • Powerful Goal Achievement Strategies
  • Emotional State Mastery
  • Positive Mental Attitude
  • Strong Concentration & Focusing Abilities
  • Positive Self Image & Unshakeable Self Confidence
  • Precision Visualisation Skills

By the end of the program both of each of you will have clearly seen, heard, and fully experienced and integrated the Sportsmind mental toughness training process, and these seven skills of the sports mind will have become automatic and unconscious skills you will apply in all your future sports performances.

All the ideas and techniques in this training have been proven in practice in my work with literally thousands of elite sports people over the past thirty years, so expect to notice significant improvements in your sports performances as you progress, and by the end of the six weeks you will be so amazed at your improvement, you’ll probably want to do it all again!

Before You Start - Make a Commitment to Yourself...

Before you start, you will want to make a couple of commitments.

The first is relatively easy – you want to commit to yourself and your own improvement. To genuinely make a committed decision to improve – this is your first step, and while it might seem obvious, I know that people today use the term ‘commitment’ very loosely.

Many people ‘say’ they are committed to give up smoking, or lose weight, or spend more time with their children, or whatever …. But they don’t stick to it! A commitment is meant to be something strong; a promise to yourself that you don’t break, that you stick to regardless of challenges and difficulties.

So please commit to yourself, and make it a genuine commitment.

…And Accept Personal Responsibility

Secondly, it’s important that you accept one simple premise for the duration of the training: you are responsible for your life.

You are responsible for your health, your finances, your relationships – and your sports performances.

All the details of your life have been determined by your thinking and your actions up to this point – and your thoughts and actions from now on will determine your future.

Now some people say this may not be the case, and if so then you’re just a victim of circumstances and you can’t really change anything in your life… It’s all a result of your genetics, fate and luck of the draw.

If you believe that, then don’t bother reading any further. Close down this website and just give up, and be happy with whatever performance level you’re currently playing at!

However I don’t believe that, and if you’ve chosen to come to Sportsmind, I don’t think you do either. I choose to believe that we are at least partly responsible for every condition in our lives – our financial situation, our relationships, our education, our career and our sports performances ARE all influenced in large part by our thinking, our emotions, and our behaviours.

By accepting this personal responsibility, we can choose to change and do something different – and as a consequence change the conditions of our lives, including our sports performances.

Over the next 42 days, I will train you in how to stay positive, resourceful and motivated, and show you how to use your mind to enhance your performances, and develop the mental and emotional strength you will need to succeed.

The mental and emotional strength of an elite athlete.

So now…  Just Do It!
